the 2009 everyman is dedicated to my father-in-law, Kenneth Eugene Walter, who passed away the day before this year's event launched. in many regards, papa ken is responsible for the everyman because he is who first taught me how to use a camera. and he taught me in the pre-digital age. and he taught me on a (then) thirty year old fully manual camera that didn't even have an off/on switch. in short, he taught me to appreciate and respect the art of photography.
